John Davidson (11 April - 23 March ) was a Scottish poet, playwright and novelist, best known for his ballads. He also did translations from French and German. Davidson was born at Barrhead, Renfrewshire, son of a Dissenting minister. He entered the chemical department of a sugar refinery in Greenock in his 13th year, returning after a year to school as a pupil teacher. He was Children: Alexander and Menzies. John Davidson was a Scottish poet, playwright and novelist, best known for his ballads. He also did translations from French and German.
